111: Nail Techs can be black too! FT Leanne Woodley and Estasha Goodwin
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
Chelsea, Glynn and Sade get to chat with two amazing nail techs! We spoke to Leanne (IG @she.nails.it) and Estasha (IG @heartandsolnails) about the current state of the nail industry. How they are runing their businesses during Covid-19. How they got started and just being boss ass WOC in this industry! More about our guests: Estasha (@heartandsolnails )- Heart and Sol Nails was founded in 2018 in San Francisco by owner and independent nail HeARTist, Estasha Goodwin. Prior to becoming a licensed nail technician Estasha received monthly gel manicures as a form of self care and creative expression. These appointments became rituals filled with pampering and communion between her and her nail artist. These experiences as a client shaped what would become Heart and Sol Nails. Now Estasha is on the other side of the table and provides a safe and encouraging environment for her clients to receive high quality nail care and customized nail art that envokes each individuals' personality and power to harness joy and strength. Estasha believes that by putting her heart and soul into every nail she paints she can showcase that nail care can be a powerful tool for personal growth and not just an everyday beauty service. Leanne (IG @she.nails.it) moved to NYC in 2012, she began her career in nails after 2 1/2 years of assisting as a stylist. After spending two years working in a Japanese nail art salon, she went on to working for herself, which led to assisting opportunities like working on Jin Soon's team, working as key artist, as well as maintaining her personal clients. 108 "Down in the Valley Where the Girls Get Naked" w/ Brandee Evans
Wednesday Aug 19, 2020
Wednesday Aug 19, 2020
YA'LL. P-Valley is the show of the summer. The new Starz drama tells the stories of Black strippers working a club in the Mississippi Delta. It's been called one of the year's most provocative dramas. We sat down with the star of the show, Ms. Brandee Evans, who has been captivating us on screen as the character Mercedes, who has a lovable (but she'll f*ck you up) personality that reminds us of our big cousins. And OF COURSE, we get our lives watching her do them stunts on the pole every week. Let's get into it! 106 - Empathy X Actually Curious Card Game
Wednesday Aug 05, 2020
Wednesday Aug 05, 2020
Chelsea, Glynn and Sade are obsessed with the card game ACTUALLY CURIOUS! We played a few rounds together and it was super eye opening! We had the pleasure of having Michael Tenant join the group chat to play with us this week. Michael is the Founder and CEO of curiosity lab and the game actually curious. He is an award-winning media, advertising, and nonprofit veteran for companies like MTV, VICE Media, P&G, CocaCola, and more. Early in his career, Michael struggled to find advocates and mentors that looked like him and cared to guide him during those early days. It is this lack of representation and mentorship that inspires his commitment to bringing opportunities to communities that need it most. Michael's long term ambition is to build a thriving integrated products, media, and services business, from communities of color and intended to unite the world. Please send us any questions to hello@blackgirlstexting.com or DM us on Instagram at BlackGirlsTexting Use code Curiousity to get 20% off the game as BGT listeners!
